A look back at Vinexpo Bordeaux 2017: a successful show
Vinexpo 2017 was particularly successful this year, with around 30,000 people attending each day, enough to keep every participant working hard. Yet it seems that the show is facing new competition from Prowein in Düsserldorf, Germany, and Vinitaly in Verona, Italy, which are held in March and Easter. For this reason, Vinexpo is considering changing its dates, in order to "regain its leadership", with major European operators such as Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Great Britain absent.
For its part, Bordeaux City Bond made the most of the week by inviting its partners and customers to lunch at the Pavillon du Lac, in the presence of the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an opportunity to share a more intimate moment at the water's edge. Customers were also able to take advantage of a chauffeur-driven car service to and from the warehouse. It was a welcome service, given the hot weather we've all been experiencing!
Vinexpo is also an opportunity to make new discoveries, through tastings such as that of Moon Harbour whiskies, whose distillery will soon be set up in Bordeaux at the former submarine base, or of wines from Adelaide in southern Australia, such as those from Hentley Farm.
These include the famous "La Jurade" evening, which this year took place on Saturday June 17 at Château Clos Fourtet in Saint Emilion, in a tuxedo and cocktail dress atmosphere, and the "Vignobles et Signatures" evening at Château Haut-Selve in the Graves on Sunday June 18.
Japan and the European Union: a new free trade agreement
In Brussels, on Thursday July 6, on the eve of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Japan and the European Union signed the JEFTA (Japan-EU Free Trade Agreement). The agreement was conceived as a response to American protectionist tendencies. Advances include the immediate elimination of tariffs on both Japanese and French wine, as well as tax relief on cheese.
Bordeaux So Good 2017 opens its doors to world wines
From November 17 to 19, the 4th edition of Bordeaux So Good, twinned with the city of Kyoto in Japan, will showcase wines from around the world. Bordeaux City Bond will be taking part in an original way this year. More details to follow in the autumn.
